My Son and the Coinstar Machine

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the penny, and who saves them. I mentioned that my son does.
Well, a couple of days ago we headed to the Coinstar machine with a jar full of quarters, dimes, nickels and (you guessed it, lots of) pennies. The Boy was thrilled. We dumped the coins in, and he enjoyed watching them flow into the machine. He thought it was cool to pick up the “rejects” from the change tray.
And then all he got back was a slip of paper. I explained that we would take the paper to the cash register, and they would give us the money. He was less than impressed to get $84 in paper money back: “That’s all?”
“But, honey,” I said, trying to explain, “paper money is worth more than coin money.”
Even as I said it, I knew how foolish it sounded.
