10 Unusual Places to Find Freelance Work

We all have our favorite job boards to troll, and I’m guessing that more than a few of you are well acquainted with bidding sites like Elance. Sometimes, though, these sites don’t give you crap. I remember going through a two-month period back when I was about 5 months into freelancing full time when I couldn’t find much of anything as far as freelancing work. I actually resorted to some really crummy low-paying jobs and had a yard sale just to pay bills. Yuck.
Since then, I’m happy to say that I have enough long-term clients to keep me busy (sometimes …read more

One Good Job Deserves Another: Landing Gigs

I’ve been congratulated by a number of people on landing this gig – writing for the freelance category here at Bizzia. And it is a great gig – but landing it wasn’t a fluke or lucky or even about being the best person for the job. I’m not saying that you can’t get great freelance jobs those ways, but if you’re a writer, the best way to get hired for awesome long-term contract positions is to do an awesome job at the writing gigs you have today.
Let me tell you the story of how I got this position. Don’t worry …read more

You Bet Experience Matters! But You Can Get Your First Writing Gig Anyway

Without a doubt, the biggest interest freelance writers have is how to get a gig. Experienced writers are almost always looking for the next writing job while, obviously perhaps, new writers are longing for their first. Writing experience does matter; I’d be fooling you if I said anything else. It’s way easier for me to get a gig than the first time I went for one. I’ve got so many credits they can seem intimidating. You may, however, have more experience than you think. Over time I’ve rarely if every run into people who truly want to earn their living …read more

Freelance Writing Jobs – 56 New Writing and Editing Jobs

There are 56 new writing and editing jobs today.
Seems like almost every job search I do surfaces writing jobs that “must be done tonight” or some other extremely short time period. I don’t post those. I’m a fast writer, but “tonight” or “by Friday” indicates poor planning to me and they are not the kinds of jobs I want to get involved with. It takes some time to choose a writer, make sure the writer understands the assignment; besides, the writer needs some time to do a good job.

Freelance Writing Jobs – 36 New Writing and Editing Jobs

Wow – I found only 36 new freelance writing jobs today – a real dip from Monday.
But the other thing I noticed is that several are actually repostings from earlier – which, I think, means at least some employers are having trouble finding the right writer.

Freelance Writing Jobs – 47 New Writing and Editing Jobs

I just posted 47 New Writing and Editing Jobs.
That brings our total number of writing, editing and translation jobs to 146 for the week. I wish I knew if that represents 5% or 10% or 25% of the total number of freelance writing jobs available jobs around the world… I’m sure it’s a fairly small percentage, but I truly have no clue or any way to figure it out.
But there is work out there for freelance writers – lots of it.
