I’ll Never Get Finished!

Arghhhh. I’ll never finish this d**n book! At least it almost feels that way. This morning when I started I had about 30 pages to go. Now hours and hours later I’ve still got 16 pages to go. It keeps growing! I’ve gone from a 20,000 word count a week or two ago to over 31,000 – yikes that’s a lot of writing. I didn’t realize I’d done that much!
But it all needs to be done! The book is better for it. Pant pant pant. I feel like I’m chasing these last few pages.
Oh well, back at it.

Creating A Style Sheet For Your Book

Creating A Style Sheet For Your Book

Books are not only hard to write, the manuscripts tend to get long and messy. I’m going through the draft of my book about writing books and my headings are all messed up. I also changed typeface for the body somewhere in the middle. Plus, I started drafting in double space and then, as I got closer to completion, switched to single, except there are three or four sections that didn’t get switched.
As I’m editing and realized it was past time to set up a style sheet for the book. A style sheet simply defines the style, like typeface, type …read more

Are You Afraid To Get Your Book Written?

Are you afraid to get your book written? That’s such a rude question! Yet I find probably one out of every four or five people who contact me about getting a book written are actually so afraid of the project it never happens.
My own experience with fear says that the sooner I face it the better. I suspect the same thing is true when it comes to writing books. If you honestly take a look at your fear and discover what it’s all about, you’re likely to be able to let it go and get your book written.
I’ve written an …read more

What Do Those Best Seller Lists Really Mean?

Lol! I didn’t know what I was getting into when I started exploring the number of books sold. I guess my awareness is increasing because I just found Bryan Catherman’ post called Understanding Bestseller Lists on his blog, Beyond the Binding.
It’s a pretty good description of both the types of best seller lists out there, and how they are compiled. There are more kinds of best seller lists than I had realized, and more complexity in assembling them.
Great fodder when you’re thinking about getting a book written.

Marketing Yourself

Lori Widmer who blogs at Words on the Page, waxes a bit nostalgic as she remembers finding writing work when the ‘net was new. It’s all a way of introducing her new series about finding writing work and marketing yourself.
The first post is Marketing 101: Finding the Clients and it’s definitely worth a read, maybe even some study.
I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

John Kremer’s Book Marketing Blog

John Kremer has a blog! Why does this please me? Because John wrote 1001 Ways to Market Your Books which is a gem, even though no one has a prayer of using all this tips.
I also heard him speak, and enjoyed him thoroughly, so I’m glad he has a blog. On July 18 he pointed to a book marketing network. At the moment it’s free, maybe always will be. I joined, but I don’t yet have a feel of how valuable it will be.
