Rules? What Rules?

It probably isn’t written down anywhere, but it seems like how-to-market articles are supposed to be, if not dull, certainly straight forward. The same thing can probably be said about reviews of websites. After all, the goal is serious… to help you, the webmaster or web writer, create traffic. Serious business requires serious writing, right?
Well, maybe. But what if… what if you took a tack like Men with Pens does in their Drive-by-Shooting Sunday: Marketing Artfully? Go ahead, read a couple of paragraphs; I’ll wait.
Hard, at first, to even tell it’s got anything to do with marketing or websites. Which, …read more

A Writer From India Asks:

I am a Content Writer based out of India and I am keen on expanding my horizons in the field of writing for Print, Internet and New Media.
Could you please let me know how best I can utilise this site and trace out job/ assignments suiting my workprofile.
Is there any place where I could post my resume for firms to contact me for writing opportunities?
Thanks & regards,
Tanya

Writers Remember – Getting Back To Our Passion

Writer, editor and web mistress Julia Temlyn has created a lovely site aimed at reminding writers why they started writing in the first place. It’s called Writers Remember. She recognizes we often sell at least part of our souls as we write what others want us to write – mostly in order to get paid. But, she suggests at her site, we all need to get back to our passion.
The site has the usual resources, links and what-have-you, but it also has essays an articles by writers writing what they want to write.
It’s a lovely place to hang out a …read more

Ye Gods I’m Distracted!

Probably two years ago, I urged a group I belong to to take on their World Conference in 2006. As fate would have it, about 18 months ago I was made chair of the committee. Since then, until July, we’ve been meeting monthly and doing our business in a fairly leisurely fashion. Starting last month, our meetings increased to weekly and now the Conference is nine days away.
Nine days! Only nine days! As you might suspect, there’s a ton yet to do. In fact, when I think about it, it only makes sense that the work load would increase wildly …read more

Jake Challenor, Managing Editor of www.ImBoss.tv, offers 13 Steps To Writing Killer Web Copy. Jake and his website are in Australia, known to some of us as Oz. I was fortunate enough to spend about 10 days in Brisbane years ago. It didn’t take me more than a minute or two to fall in love with the forthrightness as well as the friendliness of the folks there – which shows in these excellent tips.
Isn’t it fun to be so easily in touch with the other side of the planet?
Thanks Jake!

Do What You Can, Get Help with the Rest – 31 Days to Better Freelance Writing – Day 17

The bald man of Bald Man Blogging suggested his 5 Habits of Highly Effective Bloggers might have some tips for freelance writers, and he’s right. He’s got 6 blogs at the moment, so some of his tips, particularly the first, “Develop a Routine,” are blogging specific – but his suggestions work for multiple writing projects of any type.
I think my favorite tip is his 5th, Do What You Can, Get Help with the Rest. Give the whole thing a read – I know I found it valuable.
