Sometimes you just need a little ad-hoc network to get something done at a meeting. Maybe you’re at a coffee shop with buds and want to push a file back and forth. Maybe you just need to share something fast. Vista has this capability built-in, and I got a chance to play with it a little when I had another Vista machine here to set up. Thing is that not everyone has Vista. I’m sure there will be an XP client for the People Near Me thing, but what if you don’t want to wait? What if you want something …read more

Another good post from WebWorkerDaily. They list the core tools for distance collaboration.
Email
Phone
Text chat
VOIP
Web Conferencing
Document collaboration
Group online document sharing
Wiki
Shared calendars
Message forums
video chat

Since this blog is so new, I’m going on the rest of my major bloggy coolness … hmm I think I’m asking a lot here. Regardless I can’t wait to try it. I do have some questions, though.
First, how is it going to sync with the tools you’re using now. I’m thinking Outlook and …read more

Caught on Techcrunch this morning a new service called SlideShare (blog is here) that looks like an interesting solution for hosting PowerPoint slides online, kinda like YouTube. The service is in limited access beta so I can’t give you a review at this time, but I did request a login so I hope to have that soon.
The interface looks pretty interesting and the blog has a couple of examples and suggested uses. Following the comment thread on Techcrunch, though, there are questions about what you’d share (at this time everything is public) and, more worrisome, who owns the content once …read more
