Walgreen Pulls WA Pharmacies in Protest

Walgreen Co. announced this week that they’d be pulling nearly half of their pharmacies out of Washington in protest of the state’s  plan to change their drug reimbursement policies.
Medicaid in Washington plans to insist that their patients use cheaper, generic drugs, rather than brand-name drugs, whenever equivalents are available. In turn, they’ll also cut the rate of reimbursement on drugs for pharmacies that supply them. The plan will drop reimbursements by 6%, which will help keep Medicaid possible for Washington residents, but which may drive some pharmacies out of business.

Senators from both Washington and Oklahoma have spent the past day or two lobbying over a very important issue: basketball. They’re experiencing the novelty of lobbying as NBA owners meets today to decide the fate of the Seattle Supersonics. Supersonics owner Clay Bennett wants to move the team, and Oklahoma City looks like a potential home.

Washington G.O.P. makes an ‘Oops’

Washington state’s Republican Party Chairman Luke Esser holds a B.A. in Accounting, but you have got to wonder if the man slept through his statistics courses. He called the state’s Saturday primary for McCain with only 87.2 percent of the vote counted — and it gets worse. With almost 13 percent of the votes uncounted, John McCain had less than a 2 percent lead on Mike Huckabee. I sure as heck wouldn’t be comfortable calling that race without knowing how those last votes were going to fall.
