One Writer’s Self-Publishing Experience – Videos About Writing

Laura Duksta sold well over 100,000 of her self-published children’s book. She has two videos that outline how she did it. One comment from me. I know you can self-publish a book for way way less than the $10,000 she quotes, so don’t lock in on that. Instead, pay attention to who she recommends in the first video and her marketing strategies in the second.

Trade v. Self Publishing

I’m writing an ebook about how to get a book written and I want to contrast self-publishing with trade publishing. Here are the lists so far:
Self-publishing:

If your book needs substantial, you will have to provide
You provide copy editing, ideally by hiring a professional
You provide book design
You provide, illustrations, charts, graphics if needed
You provide cover design
You write Back of Jacket Copy
You do all the marketing
POD* is fine if it’s just text or text with line illustrations, and it’s getting better all the time
No advance… you’ll be spending your own money

The Changing Face of Self-Publishing – A Guest Post

(Guest post by Mary Emma Allen, author and co-blogger with Yvonne Russell at Home Biz Notes)
Will self-publishing, which has become a popular way to see one’s book in print and a more acceptable method than in the past, see a decline due to Amazon’s apparent new policy? It appears that Amazon will only accept books published by their acquisition, Book Surge, a Print on Demand (POD) entity.
Many writers and small publishers, who depended on Amazon as a prominent way to sell their books, are discouraged, even angry. However, it depends on what your goal is with your book.

Self-Publishing As A Lifestyle?

Has self-publishing evolved or devolved to the place where it can be called a lifestyle? That’s the question asked at the Institute for the Future of the Book’s blog, If:book called: borders self-publishing and the idea of vanity
It’s an interesting essay worth reading and contemplating.
I’ve written an article sparked by the entry called Self-Publishing Or Vanity Publishing? which may add to the conversation.
What do you think?
