Liz Talks About Blog Writing

This is an interview I should have thought of! Leo Babauta who does Write to Done has an interview by Chief Editor Mary Jaksch of GoodLifeZen called Liz Strauss: The Secret of Being a Successful and Outstanding Writer.
Mary obviously knows Liz’s blog well, and refers to more than a few of her posts as she shapes questions for the successful blogger. Included in the advice Liz gives is:

“Sit down with yourself and be real. Then share what you’re feeling.”
A charming list of why she writes.
“Blogging is a new genre that requires a new way of writing to open it up …read more

My 2008 Bucket List In June

Last January, with some prompting from Liz Strauss who is the brains and blogger at Successful (and outstanding) Blog(gers) I published my own Bucket List for the Year.
How well have I done?

I have moved to larger quarters… in a delightful cottage with a private garden that is part of the Sweetwater Zen Center. I’m part of a small community and loving it.
My daughter and I have talked about traveling together… no plans yet, but I’m delighted the subject has been broached and not rejected out of hand. My next step is to get my passport in order.
I haven’t yet finished …read more

140 Characters – Think of What You Can Say (Write)!

Over at Successful Blog, Liz makes this statement in a post about twitter: Few messages of importance can’t be delivered in 140 characters.
My hunch is she’s right, and that sometimes it would take a talented freelance writer and editor to whittle an important message down to 140 characters.
What do you think? Could you do it? Should you? Would you?

Writers! Thumb Your Nose at Naysayers

Just in case I haven’t been clear, if you want to be a freelance writer, go for it. Ignore the naysayers; it’s worked for me and it’s worked for others.
Liz Strauss over at Successful Blog has a two parter that demonstrates the point. The first, The power of survival stories, saying “damn it all” and tuning out the “no” noise by J.C. Hutchins is the story of how Hutchins turned his long, long science fiction novel into a series of free podcasts that resulted in a book contract with St. Martins Press. It’s an inspiring story and I’m starting to …read more

Writing From the Heart

Valentine’s Day is a good time to remember what writing from the heart is… and isn’t. To me, writing from the heart is deep truth telling in a way that allows others to step into and understand your experience. It isn’t mawkish or overly sentimental, or overly anything come to think of it.
How do you get there? Well, practice is certainly part of it. Liz Strauss, creator of Successful Blog has a post today called: How to Write Intelligently from the Heart
She’s got some great suggestions there. I think my favorite is: Be willing to put yourself into what you …read more

My 2008 Bucket List

Liz Strauss who is the brains and blogger at Successful (and outstanding) Blog(gers) posted her 2008 Bucket List.
Do you know what a bucket list is? I didn’t, or at least not by that term… it’s the old “what do you absolutely have to do before you die” list. Liz, prompted by Jeff Pulver, created a bucket list for the new year. Then she challenged some of us on her blog to do the same.
Well, the first, get noticed by Liz, happened already! Thanks Liz! Here are some more:

Finish my Writing With Vision Book
Complete and deliver at least twice the class, …read more
