Currently, Sony can’t be happy that their PlayStation 3 has been outsold by both Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii. On Tuesday, Sony made a move to address the situation. Starting right away, the price of a PlayStation 3 will be cut from $399 to $299.
This sale price for the PlayStation 3 will affect the current 80 gig model on the market. It will also be the price for the new, slimmer 120 gig model that is set to be released within the next month. The current 160 gig models will now be $399 instead of $499.

Whereas at one point they seemed like an impractical luxury that would never catch on, e-readers, such as the popular Amazon Kindle unveiled in 2007, may soon be as become a major player in the electronics industry. As more and more competitors enter the market to try to unseat the Kindle as the most popular e-reader, consumers will see prices fall and availability skyrocket.
Analysts do not expect e-readers to approach the popularity of MP3 players, which quickly achieved 50 million sales within five years of their introduction. However, analysts are expecting the number of e-readers to rapidly increase, ending up …read more

While the videogame industry had once been thought of as recession-proof, reports from Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo show that even the videogame industry has managed to spring a leak. The makers of every major videogame console have shown a drop in profit, as well as a reluctance to cut prices that, according to analysts, could end up harming these companies in the long run.
Videogame makers have suffered throughout the recession as more and more gamers turn to other gaming alternatives that do not involve the hefty $60 price tag on new console videogames. However, Sony and Nintendo, whose PlayStation 3 …read more

Whatever reason shoppers are buying green products, electronics companies like Sony strive to improve their green technology to remain competitive.
Check out this video where CNN’s Morgan Neill takes a look at Sony’s lab where researchers are working on the company’s green efforts.

In a joint venture, Sony and Comcast will be opening a retail store in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The store, which will carry the name Sony StyleComcast Labs, will be used by both companies to show off new products, services and technologies.
Although many experts are questioning the timing of this venture, especially with the economy in shambles and consumer buying at a quarter century low, it appears as if Sony and Comcast will be trying to mimic the success of the Apple stores across the United States. The Sony StyleComcast Labs store will be nearly 3,500 square feet and will be located …read more

One of the reasons I like blogs so much is I don’t have to try and track everything I think I should write about here. For example, I’ve been a proponent of ebooks since the beginning; I’ve been singularly unimpressed with ebook readers. Fortunately, Joe Wikert over at his Publishing 2020 Blog takes time to track these devices.
Today he’s got a post called Sony Reader Now Selling at Target . Using Google Trends, he’s tracking Amazon’s Kindle (current price, $359) and Sony’s Ebook Reater ($299 at Target). It’s amazing. He speculates that Amazon doesn’t get the market as well as …read more
