Adding Web 2.0 Programs to Your Business

Allowing your business to constantly evolve is a process that affects the programs you use to run your business. Although Web 2.0 has been around for a while, there are still new programs appearing on the scene and you can incorporate this technology into your business. Check out Go 2 Web 20 website options of software available to you.
For those who don’t know, the definition of Web 2.0 according to Tim Brady via O’Rielly Radar is…
the era when people have come to realize that it’s not the software that enables the web that matters so much as the services that …read more

Stuck at an Airport? Don’t Forget Your “Mini Motel”

We have all seen the newspaper photos and television coverage – practically every Thanksgiving and Christmas travellers get stranded at airports usually because of bad weather. The airlines can’t control the weather, so nobody gets food or hotel vouchers in those cases. Everybody tries to get cosy wherever they can.
Flight cancelations caused by the airline (mechanical problems etc) often resulted in food and hotel vouchers, especially when travellers were forced to wait for a flight overnight. These vouchers, however, are rapidly disappearing in the US. (In Europe, delays of more than 5 hours entitle passengers to a hotel voucher, if …read more

Please Remove Laptops from Cases…

The recent announcement from TSA and major laptop bag companies like Targus sounds promising: a new “checkpoint friendly” laptop case which will zip us through airport security without removing the laptop from the bag.
The goal: build a bag with no fasteners or pockets (too much clutter) which impede the X-ray equipment. If TSA can fully see the laptop, it can stay in the bag.
In theory, it sounds great. But I personally will wait to see the bags in practice before I plunk down $100 or more for a new bag.
I see two potential problems with security friendly bags. (Btw, when …read more

An idea whose time has come

I’m not even a frequent flyer (at least not in the true sense of the word) and I absolutely hate the whole plastic-baggy thing we’ve got going on. Now a company called travelon has come up with what sounds like a great solution – little biodegradable sheets which can be reconstituted into shampoo, conditioner, and shaving cream. It may not satisfy those with more finicky hair care needs than mine, but I’m looking forward to trying them. After all, why carry around all of that water when you don’t have to?
In the meantime, if you’ve tried them let us know …read more

No iPhone for China

It looks as though Apple’s iPhone won’t be making it into the Chinese market any time soon, at least according to this article.

Ok, maybe I’m LinkedIn a little bit

Ok, maybe I’m LinkedIn a little bit

Having just touted the merits of not being LinkedIn, and having received no feedback on my plaintive cry for help, I’ve decided to go ahead and work with LinkedIn for a while and see what happens. So last night, in front of the TV, I moused and buttoned my way across the LinkedIn universe and asked for some LinkedIn love – surprisingly enough, this morning I got it, in the form of a number of accepted invitations to be connections.
Now, I can’t help thinking this is kind of a Facebook for adults, but I have to say that, at first …read more

Travel Product: Power Adapter

Over the years, I have tried a lot of adapters. The last one I had I affectionately referred to as the “death star”. It looked like a martial arts weapon. At meetings, my associates often thought I was trying to electrocute them.
This year, I finally found a power adaptor from Swiss Travel Products which is the best I have ever seen. Instead of carrying around a set of adapters (”Let’s see. This trip will be UK and Australia so I will need both of these adapters…”) this one product, the World Travel Adapter handles 150 countries. You can both input …read more

Travel product: Pack-It Folders

Here is another Holiday gift idea:
I have been using Pack-it ® Folders from Eagle Creek for many years and highly recommend them. The folders work great – you fold the clothes (shirts, blouses, trousers, skirts, jackets, dresses) using the special folding board (included) and wrap them up in the folder. Nothing completely prevents wrinkles of course, but the Pack-it Folders get pretty close. Plus the clothes take up less room in your suitcase. The folder I have fits perfectly into my carry-on suitcase. They come in a number of sizes and colors. Eagle Creek sells a variety of travel products, …read more

The In-Flight Kit from The Organic Pharmacy

“An essential kit for the for the frequent or long haul flyer. A mixture of homeopathic remedies, flower essences & oils to soothe & support the body.”
On a recent long-haul flight with Emirates, I had the opportunity to try out some of these products. I especially liked the combos for putting you to sleep and for waking you up. I need all the help I can get to fight jet-lag.
All supplied in an easy to use pouch.
I just wish the easy-to-use pouch were clear and resealable so that I could carry it through security.

Moleskine Notebooks

Moleskine Notebooks

In a previous blog, Chris took the risk of being called a technophobe (he really is not) by outing himself as a user of a paper-based organizer. I also have not been able to give up paper 100% – while my calendar and address book are electronic, I still use a paper notebook for meeting notes and reminders.
This year, I started using the famous notebooks from Moleskine. These lovely notebooks have a rigid, oilcloth-bound cover, use acid-free paper and come in two sizes and many variations. They cost around $20, depending on size, but are often on sale at …read more
