Job Interview Thank You Notes
Wondering if you should send a thank you note after your recent job interview? Don’t think – just do it.
Remember that most hiring managers will be interviewing multiple candidates for their vacancy so it’s important to set yourself apart. A thank you note is yet another way to do that. It won’t be a slam dunk because I’ve found that most people do send thank you notes these days. Still, put as much effort into your thank you note as you did your resume and you’ll increase your chance of a job offer even more. Here are some things to …read more

So you got a job offer!! Yippee!! ————- Time to celebrate right!? Yes, I would say go to dinner, have some dessert – maybe a sundae, but then what? Are you ready? Can you really do all the things you said you can do? A long time ago, someone said to me, the cream always rises to the top.” I believe that and have lived in my career with that perspective in mind as I go about doing the various jobs I have had the privilege to do over the years. An ice cream sundae is not quite a sundae without …read more

Ever had a bad interview experience? How do you recover?
I recommend to my clients after every interview, to assess their performance and give themself feedback. You know how well you did when you come out of the interview. No one has to tell you, you already know.
Questions you can ask youself:
How did it feel over all?
What did you do well? Should list at least 3 things
What didn’t you do well? Should list at least 3 things
What would you do differently if given the opportunity to interview again?
Every question above is important don’t skip one. Understand that when you interview, some …read more

From Interview to offer is a repost. The original posted back in March. I have added just a little more information to help a job seeker who finds herself waiting. Enjoy!
For most of us there is a long “pregnant pause” from the time we interview to the time we are given a formal offer of employment. Mind you, the pause can be as long a day or a few weeks, but for most of us whatever the timeframe it seems toooooooooo long.
So what do you do while you wait? First, thing I would recommend you do, is occupy your …read more

Ok, so you got feedback or you gave yourself feedback. What do you do with the information you recieve? Well, like most people, you could ignore it. You could do nothing and you can continue to do what you have always done.
“If you keep doing what you’ve always done, yet you expect different results” you are operating from insanity. So, what are you going to do with this feedback?
Here’s what I recommend:
Once you receive the feedback, it is very important that you evaluate the feedback you receive. How do you evaluate it?
1. Ask yourself, “Is the feedback I received true?” …read more

Do you need feedback? Absolutely! We all need feedback. We all need perspective about how we perform, both on the job and in the course of an interview.
What is feedback?
My definition after reviewing multiple definitions. Feedback – Information given to communicate satisfaction or dissatisfaction with an end result of improvement for the receiver.
On A Personal Note:
Given my definition above let’s look at self-correcting Feedback. This is a term I coined years ago concerning myself. In my late 20’s when I first had an opportunity to manage people, I had two mentors. They were VERY good at their job. …read more

How Do You Say “Thank You”?

Thank You Notes are still appropriate today. For a gift, for a kind gesture and definitely for an interview!
Many people ask, “should I send a handwritten note?” “Is it ok to send the note by email?” I would say “YES” to both. Personally, I recommend handwritten notes. It is a lost art and it distinquishes you from everyone else in the candidate pool. Email is quicker and definitely acceptable. So you choose!
By definition saying “Thank You” is a polite way of expressing gratitude.
Guidelines for your Thank You Note:
1. Thank You notes should be sent within 24 hours after the …read more

That being said, how do you convert an interview into an offer?
First, you have to decide whether you want the job. How do you determine whether you want the job? You must interview the interviewer. You must know what you are looking for from your next job opportunity. Otherwise, …read more
Unofficial Poll – Do You Like Your Job?
March 8, 2007 by Darlene McDaniel

A couple of days ago, I heard on the radio that 70% of Americans are unhappy in their jobs. As I began to prepare to write today, I opened a book, “The Five O’Clock Club Job Search Workbook,” and the first sentence I read says, 85% of all Americans are unhappy in their jobs.” Whether the number is between 70% and 85%, the number seems high to me. As a result, I am looking for an unofficial poll. I really want to know. Are you unhappy with your job?
