The goal when I coach managers at any level is to bring their hiring skills to core competency level and improve their hit rate—as measured in longevity, not just filling positions.
To help ensure that end, I developed a cheat sheet for them, too. I also have them send our CheatSheet for InterviewEEs© (see yesterday’s post) to any candidate in whom they’re interested.
Great interviews should bring enormous satisfaction to both interviewers and candidates—whether they result in an offer or not and the responsibility for making that happen rests with everybody involved.

Back when I was a headhunter I developed written interview guidelines for my candidates. Too often interviewing is seen as a contest between opposing sides rather than a mutually beneficial exchange of information.
It’s always worked well and I thought I’d share it with you. Print it out and keep it by your side. Customize it; add to it; tweak it as needed so that it works for you.
