Netflix Profit Up, More Subscribers

Netflix Inc, which is the largest mail-order movie-rental system in the United States, has experienced significant 48 percent rise in profits in the third quarter off of an increased number of subscriptions. Net income has increased to $30.1 million, or 52 cents per share, from $20.4 million, or 33 cents per share, a year earlier, according to a statement released today by the company.

Disney’s Deal Leaves Paramount Worried

Disney’s recent decision to purchase Marvel Entertainment certainly was not meant to cause harm to Paramount Pictures, which is owned by Viacom, but the deal may end up posing a significant problem for Paramount. The worry stems from a one-year film distribution deal that Paramount formed with Marvel, one that Disney does not plan to extend.
The deal gave Paramount the right to distribute Marvel’s next five films, which includes “Iron Man 2,” “The First Avenger: Captain America,” and “The Avengers.” While the deal will not end prematurely, it will leave Paramount vulnerable at the end of the one-year period by …read more

Can you spot Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) in the above clip from The Dark Knight? We only see him from the back, but he’s the gentleman that says: “We’re not intimidated by you thugs.”
The Joker (Heath Ledger’s character) responds: “You know, you remind me of my father. I hate my father.”
This isn’t the good senator from Vermont’s first time in a Batman flick — he’s not an actor, but Leahy had a cameo in Batman and Robin, and voiced a bit role in Batman: The Animated Series.
