Season 7 – The Apprentice – Week 4

This weeks episode of The Apprentice proved to be interesting to say the least.
The Task: Each team would send in two negotiators to negotiate for, 4 Broadway plays. The teams would then sell tickets for two hours, to their plays and the team who sells the most wins. Very simple task.
The Project Managers for this task were Vinnie Pastore and Marilu Henner.
The Results: Hydra, Vinnie’s team sold $33,300 worth of tickets and Empresario, Marilu’s team sold $31,757 worth of tickets. The men win again! Wow! In the end Jenny Finch got fired. Was she the one? Should she have …read more

She Thought She Was Getting Fired

I woke to this story yesterday morning and I knew I wanted to share it with you. This woman thought she was fired. Read the story and tell me what you think.
Angry Employee Deletes All Of Companies Data
Call it a tale of revenge gone wrong.
When Marie Lupe Cooley, 41, of Jacksonville, Fla., saw a help-wanted ad in the newspaper for a position that looked suspiciously like her current job — and with her boss’s phone number listed — she assumed she was about to be fired.
So, police say, she went to the architectural office where she works late Sunday night …read more

For Managers Only: Compassion for Jobseekers

I was reading an article over at JibberJobber called, Showing Compassion To A Jobseeker. It got me thinking about how hiring managers can show compassion to jobseekers during the interview process. Here’s my list:
1. Give each candidate your full attention when you are interviewing. Turn off cell phones, forward calls and focus.
2. Be clear about the job expectations and qualifications.
3. Identify core competencies for your job opening. Know what you are looking for so that you don’t waste your time or the time of jobseekers.
4. Create an interview plan. Ask consistent questions between candidates so that you measure qualifications consistently …read more

One of the resources on the site is a S.T.A.R. Story Worksheet.

Thought For The Day!

“Aim for success not perfection. Remember that fear always lurks behind perfectionism. Confronting your fears and allowing yourself the right to be human can, paradoxically, make you a far happier and more productive person.”  – by Dr. David Burns

Things That Make You Say Hmmmm

You know I am dating myself, when I pull out a picture of Aresenio Hall. But I use to watch his show like everyone else in America and I loved his monologue. He always seemed to include things that make you say hmmmmm.
I think job seekers sit in interviews and when they get a question they are not sure how to answer, they say “hmmmmm”. Maybe not out loud, but they are pondering. So I thought given my blog name, Interview Chatter, what a great opportunity for us to chat about interview questions. Here’s the deal.. I will pose interview …read more

Season 7 – The Apprentice – Week 3

Introduction of Week 3 : Week 3 began with Mr. Trump asking Gene Simmons to join Empresario and lead the women’s team to VICTORY! Which of course didn’t happen, but I am getting ahead of myself.
The Task Week 3: Kodak Mobile Printing Experience
Each team was given an air-stream mobile bus, Kodak cameras, the Easy Share All-In-One printers to create a mobile printing experience to introduce this new product to customers. The criteria for determining the winning team are: originality, brand messaging and profit.
Empresario’s planning session began with Gene Simmons introducing himself as the “benevolent dictator”. Yuck! What is that and how in the world …read more
