Exelon Corp. Joins Commerce Chamber Expats

Power company Exelon Corp. is now officially the next company to join the list of disgruntled companies quitting the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. A significant amount of companies have already left the chamber, complaining about its stance on federal climate-change legislation that could potentially have a negative impact on several of these companies’ business.
Exelon, the nation’s biggest nuclear power plant operator, left the chamber in much the same fashion as the other power companies dissenting from the Chamber of Commerce, highlighting a growing divide between American power companies and the government. Architects Head Back to School

In news that may have architects across the country groaning, the American Institute of Architects has decided that all of its members take four hours of sustainable design courses each year as part of the green movement. The policy, which will last until 2012, is aimed to reorient architects at a time when environmentally friendly buildings are quickly becoming the standard.

Wal-Mart Embraces Green Movement

In one of your future visits to Wal-Mart, you may notice that something has changed. Wal-Mart has announced that it will put into effect a program that will assign environmental labels to all of its products, labels that will allow customers to easily determine the environmental costs of producing their merchandise.

Sony Green Efforts

As people around the world continue to “go green,” the electronics industry finds way to use alternative energy sources, reduce energy consumption, increase recycling efforts and explore other green innovations. Though some consumers actually buy green products because they are better for the environment, studies show that others shop green because it’s the trendy thing to do.
Whatever reason shoppers are buying green products, electronics companies like Sony strive to improve their green technology to remain competitive.

Nevada Power Company Hits Green Goal

NV Energy, the biggest power company in the state of Nevada, has reached the “green” goal set out by state regulators. The goal was for the company to use at least 9% renewable power. Compared to other power supplies, renewable power is much better for the environment.
Although the goal has been around since 2001, this was the first time NV Energy reached the goal. Renewable power includes everything from wind to water, and from geothermal to solar.
