Shutting The Door On My Writing Office

It’s been years since I’ve had a separate room for an office. That’s largely because I’ve chosen to live a fairly alternative lifestyle. For example, I spent 16 years aboard a wee houseboat in Sausalito in a community of artists and waterfront workers called Galilee Harbor. No office there, just a desk that looked out over the water.
When I moved to San Diego I lived aboard a different boat in a marina on Harbor Island in San Diego Bay. There my writing area also looked over the water. Most recently I was in a studio in the North Park community …read more
Yep, We Were Down and You Weren’t The Only One Who Was Confused ;)

If you follow this blog, you know I’ve been moving. I don’t know why our major telcos have so much trouble moving me 12 miles south, but the did, and it’s not the first time. So when b5media started having outages I assumed it was at my end. Isn’t that the usual way we women do it? Assume it’s our fault somehow?

Software for Taxes and Writers

Okay, I’ll brag. My 2007 taxes are done! I do use an accountant, but since I’ve added Quicken, it gets easier and easier. I might even try this myself next year.
Kelly Phillips is our TaxGirl here at b5 and she’s got a great post about the differences in tax software. It’s worth of read even if you’re only thinking about doing it yourself.

Get Organized Painlessly

Is it possible to get organized painlessly? I think so, but I needed some help. That help came from Jennifer Hoffman. I met her through one of Mark Silver’s seminars where she literally held me and made me know that I didn’t have to sort out making my office effective alone. We healed a huge sore spot for me.
Later I worked with her to actually get the organizing done. Worked with me to achieve functionality, in my style, rather than someone else’s mental picture of a perfectly organized office. In that process she also showed me a whole new way …read more
