What gadget is a waste of company funds? Hint: It’s not a spaceship.

Now, normally I feature gadgets that are cool, practical, on my wishlist, or all of the above.  This week’s gadget is a first: I think it’s a waste of company funds.  True, it’s more for those who want to impress, astound, and make the competition green with envy, but if that’s important to you, then you probably represent most of the things I don’t like about the corporate world.  Anyway, without further ado, I give you the Room Wizard.

“What’s it for?” you may ask.  It’s for scheduling meetings for conference rooms.  Right.  Like that can’t be done with shared calendars …read more

Gadget Wednesdays: Executive Decisionmaker

For ambivalent supervisors everywhere is the magnetic Executive Decisionmaker. Bound to annoy/inspire your coworkers.
Here’s a brief description from the website:
The art of management meets the science of magnetism in the pendulum decision maker. Although it spends some time oscillating, vacillating and waffling between its six choices, the pendulum will eventually settle firmly on one. Even if you don’t agree with its decision, you’ll be mesmerized as the pendulum mysteriously makes your mind up for you.
It sounds alright for “fun” decisions, even if it does sound a bit like a tool for Two-Face in Batman.   Just don’t ask it existential …read more

Great ways to get more out of your Blackberry

SmallBusinessHub is putting forth a valiant effort to combat all the iPhone hype with some great Blackberry tips:
This is the week of that omnipresent Apple device whose name will not be mentioned.  I’m going to resist the temptation to write about that device and the uber-cool people that bought one and instead like to address all those other people.  These are the the people that have a Blackberry, put their shoes on one foot at a time, are doing just fine with a real keyboard with tactile feedback and otherwise are interested in getting work done.Although I’ve come across lots …read more
