Summer Solstice Blog Off

You may have heard that we’re having a Summer Solstice Blog Off here at b5’s business channel and over at the entertainment channel. It’s in celebration of the fact that today, June 20th is the actual longest day, instead of the more usual June 21.
Our challenge is to blog every hour for 24 hours and many of my blogging colleagues are doing just that! I got as far as a list of 20 topics, with two or three entries written before I realized my back simply wasn’t going to let me do that much blogging in this particular 24 …read more

Some Sunday Writing Blog Links

Hmmm. Using Google to search for freelance writing blogs, I came up with these:

Fab Freelance Writing Blog – tips and tricks, particularly about writers using the web
Writing Thoughts – bits and pieces about the freelance writing life.
All Freelance Writing – solid marketing information found here by an online PR expert
The Writers Manifesto Blog – another good one.
The Writer’s Journey – lots of interesting guest posts here.

Enjoy – and do you have a blog you’d like me to list sometime?

Promote Yourself Here – Write A Guest Post

Are you a freelance writer, editor, blogger, or translator? Do you self-publish, write memoirs, greeting cards or articles on obscure science? Do you have something to say to other freelance writers, etc?
In other words, I’d love to have some guest posts for this blog. No pay, some glory and a lot of gratitude, plus links to whatever you’d like more or less.
You can query or if you’re feeling brave send a completed ms. via email. Put Guest Post in the subject line and if it’s a whole article, paste it into the body of an email… you know why.

Is Friday A Full Workday For You?

For some reason I have a real sense of TGIF today. Usually Friday’s are pretty much like any other weekday for me, but not this one.
You’d think I was taking off on a trip or something, but all I have scheduled is dinner with one of my kids and his family tomorrow, and a visit with anther one Sunday… always fun, but not like a vacation.
Soooooo… I’m I the only one feeling like celebrating the end of the week? What are your plans for the weekend?

Some Sunday Writing Blog Links

I don’t know where the phrase, link love, came from, but I don’t like it much, even when the bloggers using it link to me. None the less, the idea behind it is one I like, so here are a few writing blog links for you:

Meryl’s Notes Blog – you never know quite what you’ll find here, but it’s usually at least useful.
theBookSistahhttp- I love this blog… it’s fun and helpful
Words on a Page – Lori is a true professional freelance writer and shares a lot of her experience here.
Men With Pens – these guys know their stuff.

Increase Writing Creativity With a Baby? He’s Got To Be Crazy!

Here’s the headline at today’s CopyBlogger: Want to Boost Your Writing Productivity? Have a Baby! by Michael Stelzner.
“He’s got to be crazy,” I muttered looking back when I had babies. “I couldn’t write then! What’s he talking about?”
I don’t know if he intended the headline to be such a grabber for moms, but it worked in my case.
Turns out it isn’t exactly the baby that’s helping Michael’s creativity (btw, congrats!), but the change in schedule. There’s nothing like getting out of your comfort zone to kick your brain out of its rut. The post is certainly worth a read.

Glossary About Pain

Glossary About Pain

HelpMyHurt.com, a b5media blog aimed at helping people deal with pain is written by Marijke Durning, RN. It’s an interesting blog, but until she put up a pain glossary, I hadn’t seen what a great resource for writers it could be.
Putting together a glossary on any subject is no easy task. I know because I’ve done it. Congrats Marijke!
What other glossaries do you know about that might be useful?
