BICEP Adds Three New Members

The Business Coalition for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy (BICEP) announced today that three new members would be joining this organization, which was started four months ago by Ceres. Joining founding companies Timberland, Nike, Sun Microsystems, Starbucks, and Levi Strauss are Gap, eBay, and Symantec.
The new members were introduced at a business breakfast and policy forum, hosted by Ceres at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C. The group hopes that by joining forces, they’ll have a louder voice in calling for strong U.S. climate and energy policies over the next year. Intel Tops EPAs Green Power Partnership

The EPA’s Green Power Partnership encourages businesses to seek out renewable energy sources, reduce the environmental impacts of electricity use and support the development of new renewable generation capacity nationwide. Intel Corporation is the national leader in this voluntary program with a purchase of 1.3 billion “green” kilowatt-hours per year, according to Sustainable Business.
These purchases surpassed the goals set by EPA’s Green Power Partnership and equal the avoided carbon dioxide emissions of more than 570 million gallons of gasoline each year or the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power nearly 670,000 average American homes annually.

The US Environmental Protection Agency has a program called the Green Power Partnership which recognizes the top green power purchasers in the nation. The Green Power Leadership Awards for Purchasers recognizes exceptional achievement among EPA Green Power Partners in three categories:
Green Power Partner of the Year: Recognizes Partners who distinguish themselves through their purchase, leadership, overall strategy, and impact on the green power market.
On-site Generation: Recognizes Partners who distinguish themselves using on-site renewable energy applications, including, but not limited to, solar photovoltaic (PV) or wind energy projects.

Sterling Planet Gives 100%

The US Environmental Protection Agency is fulfilling its commitment to 100% renewable energy with help from Green-e certified renewable energy certificate dealer Sterling Planet.
The agreement between the EPA and the REC (renewable energy certificate) dealer to supply renewable energy kilowatt hours will meet 100 percent of the government agency’s annual electricity needs at more than 190 EPA facilities across the nation.

Record Cleanup Order Ends AEP Lawsuit

A lineup of plaintiffs that included the states of Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, a dozen environmental groups including the Sierra Club and the Environmental Protection Agency have achieved a legal win against American Electric Power that is the “single largest environmental enforcement settlement in history”, according to MSNBC.
