Another Pitch For The Copy Writing Summit

My buddy, Kristen King, who writes BizChicksRule asked if I’d remind you about the Copywriting Success Summit 2008.
If you want to become a copywriter you should seriously consider attending this. I’m tempted even though I’m not particularly interested in it.

Copywriting Success Summit – Last Day For Discounts

I rarely endorse writing classes, but if I wanted to learn copywriting or become a copywriter I’d sign up for Copywriting Success Summit 2008. Here’s why:

I know it’s possible, even quite possible to earn a ton of money copywriting – I’ve seen people do it. I ghostwrite which is another area of writing altogether.
I know or recognize most of the instructors. I mean how can you go wrong with Brian Clark, known in the blogasphere as Copyblogger, Michael Stelzner of Writing White Papers fame, or Peter Bowerman who knows how to keep writers and self-publishers well-fed. Of course, Robert Bly, …read more

Shameless Self-Promo – A Vision for Your Book

One of the things I believe is if you’ve got a yen to get a book written it’s because you have something to say that the world needs to hear. Well, maybe not the whole world, but if you keep thinking and feeling you need to get a book written, there is an audience out there that wants and needs your message.
The problem with writing books is that they seem huge! The chances are that when you think about it, you go into a sort of overwhelm. Your mind is stuffed with ideas that threaten to spill out all over …read more

Vision Your Book – A Teleclass

On Thursday, November 15, 3 p.m. Pacific Time I’ll be offering a teleclass where you’ll get to actually Vision the book you want to write.
Visioning is a powerful way to invite a larger view of your book so you have a clear picture of your book and that picture is grounded so you can move onto your next steps easily and with clarity.
Get complete information about the Vision Your Book Teleclass.
If you’ve got questions or comments you can post them here or contact me directly.

Poynter Offers Journalism Fellowships

Since 1999, The Poynter Institute, probably best known as PoynterOnline, has offered a fellowship program for young journalists. The program has become known as a “boot camp” or graduate degree in six weeks.
The chosen few get to work with journalists who are at the top of their game.
Maybe you want to apply. We certainly need good journalists these days; if only they can get some independence.

Golden Pencil’s Mission Statement

As part of his 31 day project, Darren Rowse is challenging bloggers to share their mission statements.
When I started this blog, if I’d written a mission statement it would have been something like:

To share my experience, resources, etc. about the business of freelance writing.
That’s not bad, but over time, I’ve come to a deeper understanding of what it is I actually do. Also, the shape of my business has changed. My new insights are largely as a result of taking several teleclasses from Mark Silver.
Today the mission statement is:
To help people get their dreams into words.

More Classes

I’ve been a registered member (free) of Poynter.org for years but I didn’t realize the offer free classes at some called News University. For example, you can take:

Cleaning Your Copy
Get Me Rewrite
The Writer’s Workbench: 50 Tools You Can Use

These are free (you do have to register at News University) and self-paced. Although aimed at journalists, I’m looking forward to working through some of these.
