Copywriting Success Summit – Last Day For Discounts

I rarely endorse writing classes, but if I wanted to learn copywriting or become a copywriter I’d sign up for Copywriting Success Summit 2008. Here’s why:

I know it’s possible, even quite possible to earn a ton of money copywriting – I’ve seen people do it. I ghostwrite which is another area of writing altogether.
I know or recognize most of the instructors. I mean how can you go wrong with Brian Clark, known in the blogasphere as Copyblogger, Michael Stelzner of Writing White Papers fame, or Peter Bowerman who knows how to keep writers and self-publishers well-fed. Of course, Robert Bly, …read more

No Clue

You’ve head me say it before – they are upgrading the electricity on my 1920ish cottage… it’s a fair drama for sure. I’m one of four, that is part of 10.
The next step is to “cut over” to the new box and this takes at least two agencies… the city and the electric company and at least one inspector. I’ll be running off extension cords until that process is complete and we don’t know if it’s half a day or a week and a half! So if the blogging seems spotty…
Darn, guess I should be set up with …read more

Freelance Writers – On-site vs. Off

Jennifer Williamson who owns her own writing service and blogs about it all at CatalystBlogger recently took a temporary full-time, on-site writing job even though she’d promised herself and the world she wouldn’t ever do that again.
She tells the story in a post called: On-Site Writing vs. Freelancing: The Showdown
As she points out, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. She then lists some benefits of on-site work and some drawbacks. Included in her benefits is Quick feedback on your work. And, apparently, in this on-site job that’s what she got, often in a matter of hours. My experience …read more

Writers, What Would You Do? Broken Appointments

I’m going through one of those periods that astrologers lay off to mars in retrograde… lots of smallish things going wrong, and a couple of larger ones too. I won’t go into all the details, but I’m also having trouble with a clients, and I’d like your advice.
The first is a smallish contract for a book proposal. The client wants me to create a sample chapter and the rest of the sales pitch so she can circulate it to agents and/or publishers. We get along well, have had several phone appointments and are, I think (and she’s so indicated) closing …read more

Brian Clark who does such a great job over at CopyBlogger, has managed to boil his years of copywriting experience down to 5 simple looking steps: Prepare, Organize, Write, Edit, Review
For sure he knows good simply copy writing isn’t simple, but the way he’s broken it down does give a newcomer to the art a way to approach a copywriting job because he details exactly what each section actually needs. He even links to a questionnaire he uses to prepare.
If you’re interested in copywriting or just want a great review, this post is perfect.

Top 10 Posts From Top 10 Writing Blogs – 2

Okay, I started reading the other posts at Top 10 Blog Posts for Writers (The Best From The Best in 2007!) with the idea I’d pick my favorite. Not possible.
The first one on the list is 10 Steps to Becoming a Better Writer by Copyblogger Brian Clark.
It’s a great list, and in truth is the only way to become a better writer, unless, of course, you add rewriting.

Writing With Hemingway’s Rules

According to Copyblogger, Ernest Hemingway was given four writing rules when he started as a cub reporter. They’re good rules and Copyblogger not only makes cogent comments about each, you get additional links as well.
Take a look.
