Which of the “Cool Tools” do I actually use?
Here at Pimp Your Work, I often feature tools which I’ve tried. While I recommend those tools, downloading and collecting them isn’t the goal here. The goal is to find tools that complement your working style, so that you can use them productively and integrate them flawlessly into your day. The truth is that not all of the featured tools stayed in my hard drive long, some had more lasting power than others.

Cool Tools: MindMeister mindmapping tool
Pimp Your Work
I love mind maps. They’re straightforward, practical, and easy to understand. I love mindmapping tools as well, which is why I thought I’d take a look at MindMeister, an online mindmapping service.
With the use of this online mind mapping tool, collaborators need not be on the same room anymore. My favorite feature is that collaborators see each other’s modifications in real time.
Creating a new mind map is a point-and-click affair. The interface is user-friendly and clutter-free. For collaborative work, each member must have a MindMeister account and must be invited by the one who initiated the mind map. …read more
Evernote: Create and access notes almost anytime, anywhere
Deciding to “take note of something” and forgetting what that something is can be really frustrating. This is where something like Evernote comes in.
Evernote lets users capture information easily and makes it available almost anywhere. Take a snapshot of a product’s brand name, scan a receipt, record your own voice, and save web content with a single click. These are just some of the ways Evernote use to ensure that you won’t forget something that you need to remember (you need to remember to check your account, though).
Getting an account is painless and free, though there is a 40Mb storage …read more

Firefox Plugin: Customize Google
In an effort to enhance the Google experience in Firefox, CustomizeGoogle was born. It’s a free Firefox extension that adds flexibility to Google services. Customizing is as easy as opening the Add-on window, clicking on options and choosing what functions you would want to activate or deactivate. You can turn on Google Suggest, a feature that suggests words as you type them when doing a web search. Filter spam sites and exclude them from your web search.
One of my favorite things about this is that users can remove ads on several of the Google services available, such as in Gmail …read more

Software Review: SSuite Office, Fifth Element
The SSuite Office prides itself with the Fifth Element, a free premium office suite which can run on all Windows OS and hardware platforms. The suite offers 30 applications for web browsing, e-mail, image manipulation, network programs, multimedia applications, all designed to run on computers even with minimal specs.
Download and installation is a breeze. A menu will be created that groups the applications based on what they focus on. Though the browser was easy to use, it certainly lacked features when compared to other free browsers out there. It also had several problems opening some web pages.
Strangely, the suite offers …read more
Cool Tools: Time Out
PimpYourWork.com
Using computers for long hours without breaks isn’t healthy. However, one can lose track of time if an activity requires a lot of concentration. That is why Dejal decided to create Time Out.
TimeOut gives you two (2) break options: a normal break and a micro break. The normal break is a 10-minute break after 50 minutes of use. A micro break is a 10-second break after 10 minutes of use.
While it does have some presets, TimeOut is very customizable. The time between breaks and length of each break can be set. Even the signal to start the break can be …read more
