Every Writer’s Office Needs a Cat and a Weeping Chair

Some place I’ve written about the fact that many writers need cats to help them get their work done. MzTiz right now is in a snit because she thinks we’re moving again. We’re not, but I used boxes to unload the bookcase in the living room so I could move it to the office, and am now awaiting the delivery of matching book cases. (She just came back in and seems reassured that the old book case has simply been moved to a different room.)
Which brings me to the subject of weeping chairs. Back when I was messing about with …read more
This Writer’s Moving!

After four + years in a tiny studio, MzTiz and I are moving. We’ll miss the garden here, but we have not only our own wee garden to the small two bedroom we’re moving to, but, since we will be part of a community, will have big gardens as well.
I’m, of course, in a bit of a panic… you know, the whole sorting, packing and moving thing. On another level I know it will be fine and I can hardly wait to get there.
As I tell stories of my move here and maybe in other places, consider it a …read more
Nasty Old Bottom Of Bowl Creates Mini Breaks

Does anyone know why so many of our cats come close to panic when they can see even a tiny bit of the bottom of their crinkle (dry food) bowl? It’s 9 a.m. here. MzTiz had her breakfast – about half a teaspoon of horrid wet food – a couple of hours ago.
She just interrupted my writing with all sorts of cupboard loving and sure enough, when I looked, I could see just a bit of the bottom of her bowl!
Sigh. I doubt it’s true, but I like to think she goes through this performance because she knows I …read more
EEEK – A Mouse Before Coffee

My normal morning routine was rudely interrupted about 4:45 a.m. when I realized MzTiz had captured a mouse that was now hiding in the bathroom. I’ve got a whole rescue strategy for the occasional birds she brings in… it starts with picking her up and throwing her in the garage, which went well.
But mice don’t behave like birds. A bird, when covered with a towel will freeze, making it possible to scoop them up and take them someplace safe. Throw a towel over a mouse and it scurries out from under to somewhere else. Thirty minutes of moving stuff, …read more
This Writer’s Cat

Okay, this is more or less totally off-topic, except that in my writing life, a cat is a necessity.
I am the designated person of MzTiz and right now I’m wondering what universal law it is that cats get unhappy if ever they catch even a glimpse of the bottom of the bowl that contains their dry food. I mean, even though there is, at least from my human perspective, plenty of food should she be hungry, as soon as any portion of the bottom of the bowl is visible, I get the head bumping insistence that I do something …read more
