Are you LinkedIn to Social Media? This actually might sound like a stupid question, but if you are a job seeker and you’re not using LinkedIn, than you are probably spinning your wheels in your job search. You know that old saying you are only as strong as your weakest link… Well if you are not LinkedIn and you are a job seeker, than “you are the weakest link, goodbye.” Ok, so I like game shows, moving right along.
It is critical in the Social Media world to be connected. The stronger your network, the stronger you can become as you …read more

For those of us who are still working despite the increase in unemployment, it is only the grace of God that keeps us employed. There is no way that you can convince me that everyone who has been laid off, deserves to be unemployed. Think about it for a minute.
Many organizations have used this time of economic uncertainty to trim down their organization. There are some people who probably needed to leave for various reasons, but there are those who have been let go who got caught in the web of uncertainty by these organizations and they were let go. …read more
Quick Tip: Follow your Gut in Business, as in Life

How many times have you had a bad feeling about a situation or a person, only to have your concerns confirmed?
Top executives tend to be very decisive, and a lot of that certainty comes from their instincts, not their processes.
You gut instinct isn’t perfect, however. It can steer you away from situations that may not be comfortable for you, but that are necessary for your company’s success.
For example, cross-cultural hiring may take a deliberate effort to ignore some of the warning signals going off in your head.
The rest of the time, learn to trust your gut.

This tip works for executives, employees and just regular folks.
If you can see yourself years from now talking about what a waste of time and energy your job (or relationship, or business venture) was, stop complaining and start getting out of your current situation.
In some cases, I’ve been able to renegotiate my role. Other times, the smartest thing to do was bail quickly and not look back.
I’m not advocating infidelity or corporate backstabbing. But there are some situations where you just can’t win, so stop trying.
Other Quick Tips.

A good way to maintain a network is to help others.
Find some useful information? Pass it on. Forward it to the person or people you know will find if most useful.
Hear about an opportunity? Let someone know about it.
It probably won’t take very long, but it will help others and keep you in mind when they come across something that might benefit you.

The Canadian Autoworkers’ Union is appalled that GM is closing factories that produce trucks and performance cars.
Their showdown with management fizzled recently when the courts ruled they couldn’t blockade GM offices and plants just because they don’t like decisions made by management.
How utterly lame.
CAW head Buzz Hargrove was patting himself on the back a couple of years ago, when GM announced they would be producing Camaros in Canada.
Was the company’s increasing reliance on the high profit margins of SUVs, power cars and pick-up trucks a good long-term direction for the company?
Let’s see, gas prices steadily rising. Concern for …read more
