Are you managing your home sale?

Selling a home requires more managerial skills than you might imagine. Think of your home as your company, your business as selling that home and all the little people – two-legged and four-legged – running around it as your employees.

Media not the villain in housing crisis

Please, don’t kill the messenger … especially since I’m one of them.

I know that some people like to blame the media for most everything. But, really, as much as some of the real estate pros would like to, you can’t blame the current housing crisis and subprime lending fallout on the Washington Post, New York Times or Wall Street Journal.
I bring this up because I work in media. I cover both sides of the real estate transaction, writing about buyers and sellers, and the real estate agents and mortgage lenders who serve them. It always surprises me when I interview agents about today’s sluggish home sales …read more

What does going to school have to do with real estate?

Personally, I use to ask the same question when I first entered the real estate industry.  I took up AB Humanities with a field of specialization in Business Administration. After my university studies, I had to take a short course for my real estate license and continuing education afterwards to renew it. Did my course help me in my real estate business? I would say definitely, but indirectly.
Going to school is not all about learning, but also developing to a person you will be for the rest of your mature life. In fact, you may not even use most of …read more

Business Channel Theme Day: Being “August”

Scott Allen of Linked Intelligence hosted our Business Channel Theme Day: "Being August". Scott had this brilliant idea of using the definition of the word August for our theme day.
August is defined in dictionary.com as

inspiring reverence or admiration; of supreme dignity or grandeur; majestic: an august performance of a religious drama.
venerable; eminent: an august personage.

It is not a commonly use term in a conversation.  However, the business channel bloggers came up with great posts about "being August".  Check out how they were able to relate it to the different topics they are blogging:

Barbara Corcoran: a $1000 to $5 Billion dollar inspiration

This month’s business channel theme is about the definition of August:

"inspiring reverence or admiration; of supreme dignity or grandeur; majestic"
Source: Dictionary.com

In line with our channel’s theme, I would like to write about an inspiring woman; Barbara Corcoran.  She is the former founder of the Corcoran Group, the largest real estate agency in New York City.
She is one of the most admirable people in the real estate industry not only because of her achievements but also because of her great attitude towards life.
What makes here life story so inspiring was how she was able to rise above her …read more

Valentine’s Day : Genuine vs. Commercial Value

For some businesses Valentine’s day could make or break their sales.  This is very true for those involved in the flower and gifts delivery business.  My friend; who is working for one of the top flower delivery businesses here in Sydney, never fails to recruit for casual workers during this period.  He said that it is the time of the year that dictates, if they will meet their quota or will surpass their target for the year.  There are several special occassions that requires flower deliveries but nothing comes close to the demand during Valentine’s day, as he disclosed.

Goals to Live by for the Year 2007

Its another year again, and I’m not even sure if I achieved the goals I’ve set for myself last year. Some of the goals I’ve set last year were changed by some unforseen circumstamstances…some for the better and some did not meet my expectations.  Thus, for this year I don’t want to set itemized goals but goals I can live by each day of  the year 2007.  Goals that can help me be a better person, achieve the best I can be, in whatever situation I may be in.
My goals to live by for the year 2007:

1) Wake-up each morning …read more
