Who Needs Business Cards?

One of your first purchases as a freelancer should be business cards. It might seem silly at first. If all of your clients contact you online, why do you need a physical business card? You won’t have anyone to give it to, right? Wrong! Here are just a few people that I’ve given my business card:
The owner of a local restaurant, who mentioned she wanted to start a blog for the restaurant on her website

Freelance Writers and Business Cards

I just got my new business cards. The image you see here is the front. It’s the second time I’ve used the earth-from-space image. The first time I tried it, I couldn’t find anything that really seemed to say writing with vision to me so I decided I wanted to remind people we live on a small planet.
I got so many positive comments! People love the image and because they do, they pay, I think, a bit more attention to the print.

Make It Easy For Clients To Contact You

It should be obvious, but I’m often surprised at how many writers fail to make it easy for people to contact them. As I experience it, my clients initially contacted me either by email or by phone.
Most of my clients find me on the web. That’s why I urge every single writer who is even a bit serious about getting clients have a web site. I make sure my email and phone number is on all my websites (yes, I have more than one) and my mailing address is on all of them except this blog. The only problem I’ve …read more
