Sustainable Companies Survive Tough Times

Today is Blog Action Day. Bloggers from around the world are writing about a single them. This year, it’s global climate change. Interestingly, companies that have made an effort to be sustainable have actually fared quite well during the financial crisis — at least that what’s a report from A.T. Kearney claims. Environmental Leader reports on some of the findings in the report:
Over the six months from May through November 2008, the study found that in 16 of the 18 industries studied, companies committed to sustainability averaged $650 million more than the industry average in protected market capitalization per company.

The Day After

Yesterday was Blog Action Day; the subject was poverty. One of our commenters, Nicole LaMarco, who blogs at Your Writing Career also blogs at Loving Liberty. Her entry there yesterday was called: 20,000 People Died Yesterday.
When I read that entry I realize I’ve never been hungry and probably won’t ever be no matter what I might say if my lunch is delayed.
Like Nicole I regularly donate stuff I don’t use. Sometimes I do it formally, like to Goodwill, sometimes I put it on the street where it’s always picked up by people who can use it.

It’s Blog Action Day

Yesterday I posted a video about Blog Action Day. If you missed it, it’s worth a look.
Today is the day. I work to make the goal of a world that works for everyone (the vision of The United Church of Religious Science). Part of what I’ve learned is that I haven’t got a clue about how to end poverty or create a world that works for everyone. Instead, I now ask “how can I help?” and then try to listen closely.

Today is Blog Action Day. The goal is to have bloggers ‘round the world write about ways we can all work together to slow global warming.
Last July, I wrote about 7 Ways Writers Can Help Stop Global Warming. That post generated a ton of comments, many expressing dismay and a sense that we’re more or less helpless in the face of it all. But many also expressed thanks and hope.
