In order to compensate for increasing amounts of demand for several of its products, electronics retailer Best Buy plans to boost its seasonal staff for the holiday season. According to the company, Best Buy has experienced a surge in demand for products such as televisions compared to last year and has decided to increase hiring accordingly.
Demand for flat-screen televisions, smartphones, and netbooks has increased over the last year, with flat-screen television sales in July actually exceeding sales numbers reached by the company last December. TiVo and Best Buy Become Allies

In a move that looks mutually beneficial, at least on paper, TiVo announced today that it would form a marketing alliance with electronics retailer Best Buy. Although the financial details of the deal have not yet been released, the deal would involve TiVo providing its recording technology to Best Buy’s own brand of televisions and other electronics.
TiVo stands to benefit greatly from partnering up with Best Buy, the top specialty consumer electronics retailer in the country. Napster Lowers Monthly Rate to Five Dollars

Due to a lot of competition in the digital music industry, especially from iTunes, Napster has once again changed their business model. Napster, who was recently purchased by Best Buy, lowered the cost of their service to $5 per month.
For $5 per month, Napster users can download five MP3 songs and also use the on-demand music service. Additionally MP3 songs can be downloaded for as little as $.69.

Wal-Mart Eyeing Circuit City’s Customers

Circuit City no longer exists. The electronic superstar went bankrupt after losing a battle to rival Best Buy. Many companies have tried to fill Circuit City’s place in the marketplace, but now there’s a big challenger on the block. For much of the last few months, the only news we heard on Wall Street was bad news. However, over the past couple of weeks, an undeniable rally has formed. On Thursday, the Dow Jones industrial average rose more than 2% to 7,924.6 – the highest mark in over five weeks.
