7-ELEVEN to Open 100 Units in Shanghai

Shanghai, China - Taiwan-based President Chain Store Corp. said it will open four 7-Eleven stores in Shanghai at the end of April. This would be the first time for the worlds largest convenience store franchise chain, 7-Eleven, to tap the Shanghai market, raising the already keen market competition with Japans Lawson and domestic players such as Kedi and Alldays. President Chain will locate the 7-Eleven stores in Shanghais major business areas as it targets high-end consumers. The firm plans to open 100 7-Eleven outlets in Shanghai within 3 years, and will use the city as a stepping stone to expand into the east China region.

7-Eleven Promotion Again Forecasted Presidential Winner; See State-by-State Results

With its prediction of an Obama landslide victory, 7-Eleven’s 7-Election coffee-cup based political poll has scored a 3-peat win.
2008 marks the 3rd straight election that 7-Eleven consumer coffee cup preferences have accurately foretold the outcome of America’s most important political contest.
“…An historic moment we all share together…”
“The 2008 7-Election is an historic moment that we all share together,” said promotional political pundit Sean Kelly. “For too long, beverage-based promotional polling has been dismissed as mere marketing gimmickry. But this historic 3-peat has solidified the role of convenience store beverage polling in American politics. The voice of the American consumer will no longer be ignored. “
Pre-voting 7-Election results indicated a 60%/40% preference for Obama going into the election. Post-election numbers show that Obama won the election by a slimmer margin of 52% to McCain’s 46%.
The 7-Eleven results were 100% accurate in predicting a 50/50 tie in North Carolina, and were within 1-2 percentage points of calling the exact vote percentages in IL, MA, RI and KS.
Among the least accurate were the numbers for Ohio, where Obama won 51%/47% rather than the predicted 69%/31%, and in Virginia, where Obama won 52%/47% rather than the 7-Eleven prediction of 61%/39%.

The 7-Election results are in!
7-Eleven franchise owners are playing the role of pollsters once again in this Presidential election, and if their accuracy is consistent with the last two elections, John McCain and Sarah Palin will have more time in the coming years to count their houses and hunt moose, respectively.
According to the preferences determined via 7-Eleven coffee drinkers’ cups of choice, it’s Obama by a landslide:
OBAMA: 60%
MCCAIN: 40%
Margin of error: 2-3 fl. oz.
Some swing state/miscellaneous state 7-Election results:
| PA Obama: 62%
McCain: 38% |
VAObama: 61%
McCain: 39% |
CAObama: 64%
McCain: 36% |
| NHObama: 50%
McCain: 50% |
FLObama: 57%
McCain: 43% |
AZObama: 58%
McCain: 42% |
| OHObama: 69%
McCain: 31% |
ILObama: 61%
McCain: 39% |
MOObama: 65%
McCain: 35% |
| WAObama: 62%
McCain: 38% |
MAObama: 62%
McCain: 38% |
NCObama: 50%
McCain: 50% |
Silly Marketing Ploy? Consider this: 7-Eleven customers were within one point of the actual voting percentage for 3 of 4 candidates in the past two elections.
2000 Election
George W. Bush: US Voters: 47.9 percent, 7-Eleven Voters: 51percent
Al Gore: US Voters: 48.4 percent, 7-Eleven Voters: 49 percent
2004 Election
George W. Bush: US Voters: 50.7 percent, 7-Eleven Voters: 51percent
John Kerry: US Voters: 48.3 percent, 7-Eleven Voters: 49 percent
It will be interesting to see how close the 7-Eleven coffee voters come this year. We’ll know soon enough!
Now go vote… at the polls.
