(FranchisePick.Com) Here’s more from the franchise industry’s version of the television show LOST: Cuppy’s Coffee.
A coffee franchise company - like the tropical island in LOST - seems like it should a pretty straightforward thing. But with LOST and Cuppy’s Coffee, one never knows whether this episode will bring serendipity, horror, betrayal or space aliens.
FranSynergy Inc. Acquires Cuppy’s Coffee, Smoothies & More
April 22, 2008
Cuppy’s has grown leaps and bounds since our humble beginnings in May of 2006. We currently have more than 231 franchisees nationwide and 73 open stores, with many more stores in the works!
…We are pleased to announce that FranSynergy Inc., lead by Dale Nabors, CEO, has acquired Cuppy’s Coffee & More, Inc.
Dale Nabors has over 25 years of franchising experience and worked for the Dwyer Group from March, 1995 to August, 2000.
Dale was retained as a consultant for Cuppy’s back in September 2007. He has been instrumental in the leadership, development and implementation of many successful programs including:
- New distribution of products which has equated to 20-30% lower costs on average to our franchisees. This goes into effect May 2008.
- Negotiated changes for our cups which brings an overall savings to our franchisees by eliminating sleeves and minimizing the amount of inventory needed.
- Menu Price Generator which has helped our franchisees determine a more appropriate pricing structure based on expenses and overhead for that specific location.
- Budget Project Sheet which teaches our franchisees how to manage their expenses and determine the necessary sales to be profitable.
Dale’s primary objective is to take our organization to the next level. Dale’s vision for the future of Cuppy’s includes:
- Refocusing internal support efforts towards franchisee satisfaction.
- Working on increasing the profitability for our franchisees.
- Opening the stores we have sold as franchisees to increase national brand awareness, hence increasing brand equity.
We plan on hosting an upcoming call in the near future to introduce Dale Nabors and let him address the positive future direction of Cuppys.
Perhaps Fransynergy will acquire the LOST franchise and co-brand it with Cuppy’s Coffee. They could call it: LOST MONEY.

This is such a crock… Grown in leaps and bounds? I did research and saw many, many stores close- a store in Ct, Texas, California, I think there were about 15 or so. And you have only been a franchise for 2 years? Then how many more are closing? This is such a shame.
I am one in Texas that closed, but there was another before me. I’m not sure how many more are out there. The President of Cuppy’s told me that it’s more than 4 and less than 10 when I asked him how many stores besides mine that are on the verge of closing and that was in December 2007. Who knows the state of the sales now.
The website has 4 TX locations listed as open, and 4 coming soon:

Granbury Coming Soon

A quick web search shows a few question marks:

Arlington - ?
Sulpher Springs - ? (opened Jan 2007)
Houston - ? (opened Jan 2007)
I am Arlington. We opened in July 2007 and closed March 2008. I’m surprised that Temple is already up for sale. I didn’t think it had already opened.

Does Cuppy’s Coffee or Elite Manufacturing owe you a refund? Provide an update at: Does Cuppy’s Coffee or Elite Manufacturing Owe You Money?
Elite sent me a form to settle my claim when my business could not get started. Said they would pay back my investment in ” monthly payments” this was in August of 2008 since then no one word all phone numbers no good, all email no good nothing.
Dale Nabors, the owner of Cuppy’s Coffee, once told me on the Blue Mau Mau Site to never invest more money than you can afford to lose!
Unfortunately, Dale, who bought Cuppy’s apparently thought that this was a good investment, but something happened! He didn’t understand the risk inolved because the sellers, perhaps, withheld the truth from him. It will probably be sorted out in the courts, eventually.
Usually, in cases like this, the little fish are just food for the big fish.
But, be sure and report this to your State Attorney General and ask him if you have any recourse and whether or not Cuppy’s can still sell franchises in your State.
Good Luck. I’m just a little fish too!
