Alec Baldwin admits he’s an Alien

For the gazillion of you that watched the super bowl and saw this ad, you will want to skip this post. Here, go read about some other people’s lives for a while and laugh at them.

For the rest of you, I’d like to announce that Alec Baldwin has finally come out - he truly is an alien.

Growing a Real “Digital Native”

December 12, 2008 by Colleen Coplick

Digital natives - the ones who grow up with all the technology - have just gotten a little younger. OK,  a lot younger, thanks to Kickbee.
Corey Menscher
, an ITP (a two-year graduate program designed to explore the imaginative use of communications technologies) student in New York City, is an expectant father, and felt like he was removed from the growth of his soon-to-be baby. So instead of doing what normal people do, Cory decided to make his baby Twitter.

Yeah, you read that right. He created a strapped-on set of  sensors that updates the @kickbee twitter account whenever the baby started to do backflips and such.

The Kickbee is a wearable device made of a stretchable band and embedded electronics and sensors. Piezo sensors are attached directly to the band, and transmit small but detectable voltages when triggered by movement underneath. An Arduino Mini micro-controller transmits the signals to an accompanying Java application wirelessly via Bluetooth. [source]

I’m sure this is great and all, but it just seems like a goofy-ass idea to me. Mind you, I’m not a mom, and I don’t plan to be one, but seriously? A baby Twitter account?? Come on!

don’t expect to see it on your Apparently the sensors are still a little ‘touchy’ still, so don’t expect to see it in your local Babies ‘R Us anytime soon.

Puppy Cam has taken the internet by storm

You’d have to have been either on vacation on a tiny island with no internet access at all or be living under a rock not to know about the web’s latest love-fest, The Shiba Inu Puppy Cam.

People have complained about losing all productivity after finding out about the puppies - people stopped working almost entirely to watch the puppies sleep. I know at least an hour or two of my own productivity got sucked away by the little, adorable furballs, even if they were just sleeping.

You know something has become popular, or dare I say it, even an overnight sensation when it starts to get spoofed. First, Rob Cottingham of Noise to Signal released this:

and now, there’s a YouTube video as well:

We really should just band together and stop watching these damn dog…… awwww! They’re playing!!!!

One Supporter Could Ruin the Election

November 3, 2008 by Colleen Coplick

Much like the Dexter murder victim viral video, there’s a new one out about the election, and it’s pretty damn funny. This one is aimed at Kevin Dugan, author or the Bad Pitch Blog and Strategic PR blog. He’s a friend at least, but this is still funny.

If you live in the US, GO VOTE tomorrow. Please. Don’t let your country go sideways anymore… please.

Six Degrees of Separation? Try One

September 7, 2008 by Colleen Coplick

Kelly, over at TaxGirl posted her six degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon.

Here’s mine:

Yup. That’s me and Kevin himself, at a party at Sundance 2007. He didn’t really want to be there, but he was promoting his charity, which is also called Six Degrees. (image source, me on Flickr)

How many degrees away are you?

Is this what Club Penguin had in mind?

Club Penguin is one of the fastest growing sites aimed at kids ages 6-14. Their history is pretty impressive, and they were acquired by Disney approximately a year ago for millions.

I found this through BuzzFeed and wondered if it was exactly what Disney and the Club Penguin founders had in mind. Personally, I couldn’t stop giggling.

THIS is why people covet the iPhone!!

August 13, 2008 by Colleen Coplick

I have several friends who waited in line, coveted the iPhone, waited with baited breath and stood in line for hours for the damn thing. I didn’t get it then, and I don’t get it now. I get it even less now that I’ve seen some of the applications the famed App Store has available.

Behold!  the iBeer:

For the StarWars fan: the iSaber!

And probably my favourite, and the one I find the most erm, useful: I’m Rich:

The “secret” mantra embedded within the application. This TOTALLY makes it worth it!

See a video of the application at Java 4 iPhone.

Timeline of the Interwebs

August 12, 2008 by Colleen Coplick

Dipity, a site I’d never heard of before Caroline McCarthy (who I thought had given up blogging?) mentioned it on The Social, has created an internet meme timeline. It includes pretty much everything, from RickRolled to the Dancing Baby and more.

Pretty damn cool, or as Caroline said, completely awesome.

From what I understand, as long as you’re a Dipity member, you can add to the timeline… is there anything you notice that’s missing?

Will it blend?

I love Will It Blend. I think it’s one of the most creative viral videos ever. Josh Bernoff recently asked Jeremiah Owyang for some of his random swag from companies for a demonstration. Based on Jeremiah’s comment that he didn’t know his Flip would be turned to dust, I suspect that Josh didn’t mention that he could be using this swag as a demonstration of one of the key points in Groundswell.

Do what Josh and Charlene say. Pick a clear objective first not just choosing technologies because they seem cool, otherwise your next social media program is going to end up as social media dust too.
