Site: StumbleUpon.com

What is it: StumbleUpon is a site where you can randomly “stumble” across different webpages, based on your areas of interest. Also you can discover and submit sites that you find interesting for others to stumble across.
How it works: You install a toolbar to your web browser that will allow you to stumble random pages and give them “thumbs up” or “thumbs down”. As sites gain more thumbs up or if they are stumbled by popular stumblers then more traffic is pushed to that site.
How does it benefit you: You can gain a significant amount of traffic from stumbleupon, since I started using it on my humor blog I have seen a tremendous amount of traffic:
June- 1,176 page views
July- 15,772 page views
August- 25,476 page views
September- (through the first 9 days) 27,671
Over that same time frame I have gained over 100 RSS subscribers as well as seeing traffic in general increase to the site even when you remove stumbleupon traffic.
The pluses and minuses of stumbleupon
Pluses: Easy way to generate traffic, good content will do well, spending a couple of minutes a day on it goes a long way, fun
Minuses: Not always quality traffic (low click through rates on ad, low purchasing conversion, shorter average time spent on the site), certain types of sites will do better (humor, interesting posts), requires some initial time invest to reap the rewards
Who should sign up for this: Everyone, it is an easy way to get traffic. Even with the drawbacks it is still a very good site to gain traffic to your webpage.
I will cover on how to use stumbleupon in an efficient manner when I lay out my plan, but for those of you not on it…. sign up. Take some time to play around with it and if you have any questions please share them here.

Great article. I’ve been stumbling things a lot lately, but first became aware of it when my site was stumbled for the first time. I noticed a sudden increase in traffic, so I had to see what the fuss was about. It definitely helps if the content is quality.
PS. I just stumbled you
Good stuff. I’ll be checking for future artciles.
Nice post. I have been putting a bit more time into StumbleUpon lately, both in terms of stumbling sites, and also to get some traffic coming in.
I notice I enjoy stumbling sites a lot more when I use the option of viewing sites my contacts have stumbled, rather than just a random stumble of topics I’ve selected.
