Today, Oprah Winfrey launched a dedicated YouTube channel through her studio, Harpo Productions although it won’t be formally announced until November 6th). I’ve got to hand it to Oprah, not only is she the Queen of Daytime Talk and one of the most influential women on the planet, but she’s also the Queen of Strategic Brand Extensions.
Oprah Winfrey already has a successful website (Oprah.com) which launched back in 1999, but her YouTube channel will add a new dimension to social networking related to her show and brand as well as additional viral marketing opportunities. Fans will undoubtedly love the content on Oprah’s YouTube channel which is expected to include highlights from her television show, footage from the green room and backstage, and behind-the-scenes footage from an “Oprah cam.”
Sounds like a clever strategic move for Oprah Winfrey. What do you think?
