28 Weeks Later QR code

I saw a great use of a (huge) QR code this morning in Iain Tait’s blog, for the launch of the 28 Weeks Later DVD. The poster is arresting in itself with the adding meaning of the code (apparently it says “It’s back on DVD September 10th”). I was happy to see they had the URL correct this time, unlike previous guerilla attempts to publish the film when it was released in the cinema

Later on in my feed browsing, it was nice to see that it was Gia who had came up with the idea. Gia has been doing some superb things with social media and films, such as the Sunshine blog, working hard to push the boundaries of what can be done in a copyright-restricted and image-conscious environment.

QR codes have great potential to be used in marketing, allowing an extra layer of meaning to be added to advetising material and trigger some interesting puzzles. They’ve been used successfully in pervasive games in USA, with Area/Code’s ConQwest and I see their use increasing.
