What I want to be…
This entry was chosen as one of the best for the Business Channel “Take Your Sons and Daughters To Work Day” contest.
Your comments will count as votes - the most commented post between now and April 30 wins! The commenter wins and the blogger wins. So comment away!
What do you want to be? What do your kids want to be? How do childhood experiences affect your career?
All I ever wanted to be was a Mom. A Stay at Home, Milk and cookies making, PTA President, Class Mom - Mom. Maybe because my Mom wasn’t able to be that when I was a child, and I so wanted her to be. I was almost not able to do it, I was wrapped up in the let’s make money and give the kdis all the STUFF they want game, then I got and beat cancer, twice. The whole world became crystal clear at that point for me, and I quit my job, successfully had another baby and beat cancer. Then I settled down to Momydom and all the glory it meant to me. I am a NEVER HOME stay-at-home-Mom, exhausted more than I have even been in my LIFE, and enjoying every single second of it.
It’s not the right choice for everyone, but it was the right choice for us, and I am so happy with the ‘job” I have!
Celebrate Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day on April 24!

Great blog!
Nothing better than being a stay at home mom!
That is all I ever wanted to be too. A mom. A wife who cooks and cleans. :) THanks.
I personally think it’s the best job in the world!!! Congrats!

Sounds like you have an interesting story - and a great entry!
There are some days when I’m home with my kids on Fridays that I’m sure that I KNOW it would be easier to be at the office, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! I love your blog Wendy! Good luck!
KUDOS!!!!!
This is GREAT! Investing in the future is a noble thing.
Being a mom is the hardest job you will ever have…arent’ you lucky!
SAHM is a great job!
Right there with you (except I’m a homeschool mom not a pta mom LOL)! Right down to initially thinking we needed the money to have more stuff, but then figuring out the stuff isn’t important! Glad you’re enjoying your dream job!!!
Very inspiring. Motherhood is a very noble profession and caring enough to put your family first and do the best that you can in this challenging role, is all anybody can ask. We are all called to do different things in life, and that is okay. Congratulations on being nominated. I wish you all the best.
Great post!
Please give Wendy a vote for me! Great entry.
Wendy and all –
Momydom is the toughest, most time consuming, rewarding job a “woman” can have (I know that there are some great Stay-at-home-dads out there too).
I miss the days I was able to do that (before the divorce). I miss the runnin’ about that I was able to do when I was a stay-Not-So-Much-at-home mom. My kids miss it too. :[
But at least they have been shown it is a job that is of great importance. One I pray I have been able to inspire them to do.
I agree. This was a great post, thank you.
You’ve got my vote!
My mom was a SAHM until my dad passed away when I was 14. I always wanted to be a SAHM too. In the beginning I HAD to work but fortunately I was able to stay home full time when my oldest was 5. I am so glad that I was able to do that.
I love this! Being a mom isn’t easy but it’s so rewarding.
Great post Wendy, my vote is for you!!
As a woman with a law degree and a career that I believe in, I will tell you that I hire people to clean my house and cut my grass! Being “at home” is not an easy job. I believe everyone should have a choice… And being a stay at home Mom is just as important a choice as mine! Go Wendy!
Your zest for life is amazing! Congrats on beating cancer and following your dream.
Makes me proud of my newly chosen profession. Thank you.
That’s all I’ve ever wanted to be too! Gotta find me a husband first though…
Very well said! With apologies to the army, motherhood is the hardest job you’ll ever love.
This is what I always wanted to be too. And I am and I love it. I believe that if you want anything bad enough you can do it.
you have my vote!! it’s the hardest and most rewarding job. I wasn’t able to keep doing it but my hats off to you!!!
I agree-it is a good but hard job!!
Great post!!! From one SAHM to another - it is a tough, but oh so rewarding job!!! Thanks for your honest words!
I think that is the best job any one could have.
An awesome post!
I always wanted to be a SAHM too and I am!!
definitely a job…and a hard one at times…but also the MOST rewarding one around!
Love you take on staying at home…I feel the same way! Hope you win!
SAHM is the best {and hardest} job! i love it!
This is really touching! Congrats to you for beating it twice and doing what you’ve always wanted to do.
All I wanted to be was a SAHM too!
Great post!
Good Luck - SAHM’s have the highest calling of any career. Keep pressing on!
Great article. I so relate!
You have my vote! It’s one of the hardest yet most rewarding job anyone could ever have.
Marilyn
Huzzah! Bravo to you for taking that ever changing moment in life, and embracing it. Your kids will thank you no matter what choice you make, I’m glad you love the one you made!
Warm Blessings
I think girls need to know that this IS a worthy “career” choice! Children have value, and so does RAISING them!
Amazing how a serious moment in life can change our focus. :) Great post. :)
I love being a SAHM.
Jennifer
It is a tough job, but worth it!!
Great post! Atta girl!
Great job, Wendy!
I’m a SAHM and love it but I was a late bloomer… never intended to stay with the kids but hope to at least until they’re both in school.
Awesome post! Congrats on following your dream (and beating cancer!)
Love this! I am forwarding this to my sister and mom! Thanks!
I was one of the “bad” kids growing up. I experimented with alot of things I shouldn’t have. I drank and smoked and everyone thought I would do nothing with my life. Now I’m a registered nurse and I work in a children’s psychiatric hospital. Many of the kids we get are just like I was. Its nice to think I can use my past to help others now.
Love this post. I never wanted to be a mommy, but now I’m hooked.
Mothers are heros!
Take some time for YOURSELF!
What a wonderful post! I love it. :)
I’m so glad I get a chance to be at home, too!
Here’s my comment in support of Wendy! Yay for stay at home moms!
glad you got the job you wanted every one needs that.
Could anyone really achieve what they want to be without a wonderful mother cheering them on and being there for them. Wendy has my vote for best job!!
Love this post! Thank you for linking to it so we have the chance to read it.
SAHMs deserve a lot more credit than they get sometimes! I’ve always known I wanted to stay home with my kids when I’ve had children, but to all my teachers laughed when we had to write about what we wanted to be telling me that I had to get a “real job” and that staying home isn’t a “reality.” I’m living my dream job now with two kids!
Any job is great if you love doing it!
Very inspiring. It reminds me how much I love being a SAHM too.
Good luck - you have the same job as I do, and we both love it!
I chose the same profession and never regretted it. My “kids” are now in ages from 26 to 37 and I would do it all over again… oh wait, I am! I have a 16 month old granddaughter that I care for every day!
Nice writing! Very heartfelt.
Good for you! I’ve made the same choice, and am thankful to be able to do so! Blessings to you and your family!
What a sweet story!
Good luck, Wendy!
Stay at home moms rule!!!!!
I completely agree… it isn’t the right choice for everyone but I’m glad that it has worked out so well for you and your family!
Good luck!!!
I love being a SAHM, too!
Good job.
You can really be proud of being good at your job!! It is the most important job you could ever have.
I hate cancer…it took my mom and grandmother. So thrilled you’ve beaten it and are living your dream.
Nothing but smiles from me!
:)
Great post. Good luck!
Good luck! You did great!
great Wendy!
Great article! It awesome when you can live your dreams!
A very important and difficult job.
great post! and i’m looking forward to having your job :)
Awesome post. I always really only wanted to be a mom. I was blessed in that I was able to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse first.
