Your character is a critical variable in the hiring equation - no matter who you are where you work. And in my opinion it is equally critical for those “interviewing” for the Presidency in the United States.
Unfortunately, character issues come up every day in every organization from coast to coast and from sea to shining sea. Some organizations handle these issues better than others. As the 2008 election rolls around, more and more people will be considering who they will vote for to lead us over the next four years. I decided, it is time for me to throw my name in the ring for President of the United States. Below are my Top 5 Reasons you should vote for me to be your next President. It is also my submission for the Problogger Top 5 Writing Project! Enjoy!

Here are my Top 5 Reasons you should vote for me as President in 2008:
1. Impeccable Integrity - If you vote for me I will operate from impeccable integrity. I believe I am a person that operates from integrity every day. I believe those who know me, work with me and live me would agree. According to the Six Pillars of Character, “The word integrity comes from the same Latin root as “integer,” or whole number. Like a whole number, a person of integrity is undivided and complete. This means that the ethical person acts according to her beliefs, not according to expediency. She is also consistent. There is no difference in the way she makes decisions from situation to situation, this persons principles don’t vary at work or at home, in public or alone.” Ask my teenager. She will confirm that I will not waver. What she sees at home, what she deals with at home, as far as my decision making, I will employ the same level of integrity when making decisions that will affect this country. I would say that I meet all of the components of the definition.
2. Hard Working - If you vote for me, I commit to you that I will be hardworking. I am diligent and dedicated to everything I do. I will hit the ground running and accomplish more in my first 30, 60 or 90 days then most people accomplish in a year. Through the difficulties I will surely face as the leader of the free world, I will persevere through the challenges I will surely face.
3. Confidence - If you vote for me, I am confident I can do the job required. I have confidence in myself and in others. I will surround myself with people who will tell me the things I need to hear rather than agreeing with me for the sake of peace or war. I will ensure that those around me have self-confidence and yet a healthy respect for the office of the President. Self-confidence to speak up when success is in jeopardy. Healthy respect for the office of the President to ensure the message is communicated with respect. It is very important to speak up, but how you say what you say is equally important.
4. Dependability - If you vote for me, I assure you I am dependable. The word according to Wikipedia dependability is the reliability of a person to others because of her integrity, truthfulness and trustfulness, traits that can encourage someone to depend on her. In other words you can count on me to do what I say I will do. You can count on me operating from integrity and taking care of you and this country. I will leave it better than I found it!
5. Honesty - If you vote for me, I can assure you that you will have an honest President. According to the Six Pillars of Character, “honesty in communication is expressing the truth as best we know it and not conveying it in a way likely to mislead or deceive. The author of the Six Pillars of Character go on to say that there are three components to Honesty - 1) Truthfulness, 2) Sincerity, and 3) Candor. Truthfulness is presenting the facts to the best of our knowledge. Sincerity is genuineness, being without trickery or duplicity and candor is forthrightness and frankness, imposing the obligation to volunteer information that another person needs to know.”
You may wonder why in the world I decided to throw my hat in the ring for President. Well, the truth is I am not really interested in running for President. I am however interested in getting your attention. Whether you are running for President or interviewing for your first job I believe that character still matters… in every sphere of life. During the interview process, you must demonstrate and communicate your character qualities. I believe there are more than five. My top five are critical.
In business, politics…, how you behave, and how you treat others on this journey is a reflection of your character. Tony Robbins said years ago, “If you want to be successful, model yourself after successful people.” I chose myself as the model in this case. I am confident that I embody this qualities, especially integrity. Do I have them all perfected? Absolutely not! I am in process. But I work hard every day to ensure that those who I influence see these qualities modeled. You can count on it - that would be dependibility!
