Technology and the interview and hiring process. How in the world do these three things go together? About a week ago I was reading USA Today and stumbled on a surprising article called Job Seekers Show Rather Than Tell, Websites showcase video resumes. It got me thinking about the ever changing times we are experiencing.
Note: Here is a demo for you to try! This by no means endorses this organization or this product. It takes a few minutes for the video to begin. Technical Difficulties? Enjoy!
As a hiring manager, I was content to review resumes that had been screened by a recruiter and my team. I was confident for the most part that I was getting candidates they believed I should consider for an interview or series of interviews. Having a video resume would have made the screening job easier for me personally, because I am VERY good at assessing people. I see things others don’t see. I am looking beyond the surface to truly understand the person sitting in front of me. A video resume would have helped tremendously!
Back to the article, according to the the article in USA Today, “job hunters and corporate recruiters are adding online video resumes to their arsenals.” There are a myriad of start-up companies that are making this option available on the internet. I want to spend the month of May looking at this new technology. I want to hear from you. Would you invest in creating an online video resume? What pros and cons do you see?
As I bring my research this month, I want to hear from those of you who would use it. Why? For those of you who are leary, why not? I will definitely be sharing my thoughts!! I will also take a look at some of the online businesses that make this technology available to the job hunters seeking employment. I will tell you what I like and what I don’t like. What I agree with and what I don’t agree with and anything else I can find that will help you make an informed decision about whether you should actually make the investment.
