Quick Tip: Maintain Perspective When Sh*t Happens

As I wait for a winter storm to hit in the middle of April, I’m thinking about all the other unexpected events that come our way, whether we’re ready for them or not.
When life lobs a hand grenade in your general direction, the worst thing you can do is freak out. (Okay, if you’re caught in the act of murder and face almost certain imprisonment, you can have a mini-meltdown, but otherwise, chill.)
First, most things aren’t as bad as they first appear. Take a deep breath and wait until you find out all the facts.
Second, you can influence how others respond by exuding calm. Even if you don’t feel calm, act it.
Third, you make better decisions when you don’t have adrenaline coursing through your veins. Keep your cool, and you may still have a chance to resolve the problem, or minimize the damage.
