Marketing YOUrself is read ("Marketing You Yourself")! In order to successfully navigate the hiring process and find the job you want, I would encourage you to write up a marketing strategy that will be your blueprint for Marketing You Yourself. It is your responsibility to find the job you want.
4 Tips to Help You Create Your Strategy:
1. Networking - Networking is more than collecting a bunch of business cards and hoping to make a connection with someone. It is more than calling people you have not spoken to in a few months or a few years. Networking is about establish, nurturing and caring for people. It is about relationship. Who do you actually have a relationship with, that can connect you to a job and/or organization that you have an interest to work.
2. Attend Professional Development meetings - If you are looking for a job change, find some professional development organizations that match the vocation or career you are interested in. Visit, meet people and begin to forge new relationships. DON’T ask for anything from the people. Just build relationship. What can you offer them that will benefit them, whether they help you or not. Be genuine and sincere and doors will open for you.
3. Create a compelling cover letter and resume that differentiates you from the competition - Make sure it is accurate, complete. Be credible when you speak about your skills and abilities to others that may want to recommend you for employment.
4. Write the strategy down - As I stated at the beginning, write your strategy down. Set goals daily, weekly goals for attacking your job search. "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!" If you are just beginning your job search, write down who you want to work for, what type of work you want to do, what did you enjoy about your last job, what you least enjoyed, where do you want to be in an year, 3 years, 5 years, etc.
If money was no object, what would you most like to do with the rest of your life? If you don’t have an answer, get one. That is your homework. You have to know what you want to do. And you must figure out what it will take to get it. Honesty and integrity are always at the top of the list when you think about doing whatever it takes to make things happen. Whatever you do, do something!

Thanks, all of you, for the information. I also highly recommend that people do some “mind sanitation” in the form of identifying and eradicating self-limiting beliefs. This involves detecting things you think about yourself that are counter-productive, such as, “No, I’d never get that job/client/business. I’m not good enough.” Or “No one would be impressed with a CV like mine.” Do you find yourself losing opportunities due to such thinking? For more help with self-limiting beliefs, here’s an article I once wrote :http://ezinearticles.com/?Self-Limiting-Beliefs:–The-Inner-Enemies-of-Progress&id=14159.
Hope it helps!
