Here is a non-traditional way you can help market yourself in your job search. Given the direction we are going in with technology, “keeping up with the Jones’ is not a bad idea!
Online Resume? Yep, before I get too deep into this post, let me just say - Get One! Create One! I like this idea. I was out and about last night scanning blogs and leaving comments here and there and I stumbled on Cube Rules, by Scot Herrick. His name was familiar to me, but I didn’t make the connection. He is a colleague that use to write for the Business Channel here at B5media. In any case, I enjoyed reading his blog, Cube Rules so much I invited Scot to be my guest here at Tough Questions? Great Answer! Keep your eyes open, he’ll be here soon to share his wealth of knowledge.
Back to Online Resumes. I had never heard of an online resume until last night, but I like it. I certainly like it better than the Video Resumes I am seeing. Check out Scot’s Online Resume.
Why am I so excited? Why am I suggesting you get one? Your Online Resume can be a valuable tool for you to market the most important product you will ever sell - YOU! You are the Product! What a phenomenal way for you to market you, yourself (Market YOUrself).
We live in a world full of technology today that touches every arena of our life. Some areas more than others, but it’s coming. The internet has evolved and crawled its way into our daily life. Over time we have transformed our lives from radio and early nights to bed, to big screen, movies full of technology, to laptops, computers, handheld PDA’s, and portable phones that give us access to the internet every moment of every day.
My point is if Video Resumes is the technology of our future for determining candidates who will traverse our hiring processes. I believe the Online Resume is a much better way to go for the candidate. It is static rather than video. It does for you what a paper resume does without boundaries. Online Resumes allow for creativity, and links. The value here is that it gives you the opportunity to give a deeper presentation in text and eliminates the rewind button on the Video Resume. The Online Resume expands what you can share and allows you to color outside the lines. Shameless Marketing defined by me means you have the ability to communicate “who you are and what you bring to the table, unashamedly.” That to me is the power of Online Resumes.
