Great Blog Off Tip #5: Open Your Mail Over the Trash Can

It sounds a little silly, but ever since I started opening my mail while standing over the trash can, my office has been MUCH more organized, and I’m feeling way less stressed. Here’s why.

  1. I toss junk mail before it even gets to my desks and adds to the clutter collection.
  2. I can get rid of envelopes and stuff-ins and just keep the actually important stuff.
  3. I figure out fast what needs attention and what doesn’t so I can file, act, or trash right away.

At first I was concerned that I would throw out something important doing this, but it hasn’t happened yet, and I don’t think it’s going to. In fact, this lets me see faster and more clearly exactly what IS important so I can deal with it fast.
