5 Vital Elements of Blogging And the Questions it Raises

Iffect.net has compiled a list of 5 vital elements to make you a successful blogger. Here’s a strip downed version of the list:

  1. A good grasp of language and grammar
  2. Staying on topic
  3. Be friendly and helpful
  4. Be humble and modest
  5. The X-Factor

The list is very accurate in my opinion as nearly all of the elements apply to the most successful bloggers out there. Nate Whitehill raises a good question in response to the “humble and modest” aspect of the list and that is how correct it is to disclose your earnings.

Being modest would essentially mean you can’t publicly disclose your earnings (or accolades) on your blog but I think this is a bit of a stretch. If you run a news site or non-blogging site I have to agree that keeping your earnings private is a good move as it doesn’t affect your audience. On the other hand if you run a blog discussing online advertising, blogging, and the like and you build your site on the premise of transparency then I think it is not only right to disclose your earnings but not doing so is probably the wrong thing to do.

What do you think of sharing earnings on your blog, in private, and not at all? How about the rest of the list?
